About a year ago I put up an affiliate site on designer dog collars, carriers, feeders, etc.

I added some cute dog images just to attract people once they came to the site.

Not too long ago I noticed that I was getting a good amount of traffic to my site from images for Jack Russell Puppies.  My site was not about Jack Russell Puppies.  It was not even a keyword that I had targeted. 

So one day when I had some time I followed one of the image search links and found that one of my cute little buddies was number one on Google Images. 

 I then probed more into to this on my site.  I had named the image file “Jack-Russell-Puppy-60.jpg” and had made the alt tag “Jack Russell Puppy Image”.

After that I have given more consideration to my image file and alt tag names on all of my sites.  And it has paid off in traffic.

Give it a try.  It doesn’t happen over night.  But the traffic does come and it’s free.
